Special Programs

First Grade Bible Presentation Ceremony

One of the highlights of our Children’s Ministry is the privilege of presenting new first graders with their very own Bible as they promote from the Preschool Division into the Children’s Division at Cypress.

Our desire is for them to learn to love the Bible as a very special book of 66 love letters from God. We give them all the same Holman Christian Standard version of the Bible.  It is very helpful with beginning readers that they all use the same Bible so pages and words are the same. First grade teachers begin a process of teaching children how to use their Bible, find references for the Bible stories, learn memory verses and learn to locate verses and books.

Deuteronomy 6:6-7 tells us to impress the commandments of God upon the hearts of our child, talk about them at home and “along the road”, at morning and at night – in other words – at any teachable moment. It is important that parents, as their child’s first and most important teachers, read and discuss the Bible at home, encourage memorizing scripture, review and reinforce biblical teachings, and help child develop a desire to obey biblical teachings. Using the Bible is a large part of a child’s spiritual growth as they explore the many ways to worship.

Vacation Bible School

Vacation Bible School (VBS) is a great week of learning fun for kids that are pre-k through those that have completed sixth grade.  Participants enjoy bible stories, games, crafts, music, missions, snacks and recreation each day.   A special theme is chosen each year that is brought to life through colorful decorations and inviting rooms.   It is an exciting time to be with friends and to learn about God.

VBS week is usually in June, Monday through Friday mornings.  A Family Night is held on Thursday during VBS week to allow family and friends to experience our Worship Rally and to hear the children sing the songs they have learned during the week.  Afterward, families may tour the VBS rooms together.

Parent’s Night Out

In this program, a "Kids Night Out" for ages birth through 4th grade is planned once a month so that parents may enjoy a special "date" night, go shopping without the kids, or just get some much needed "peace and quiet" time at home.  Children visit with friends and participate in crafts and other activities that go along with the special theme of the month. This program is also open to children with special needs and their siblings. If you have a child with special needs please call (318) 402-2895 to help us prepare to care for your child.

Parents Night Out is held the second Friday of each month from 6:30 - 9:30 p.m. by reservation only.  A $5 fee per child is charged.  Sign up now to be part of the fun!

Upward Sports

The purpose of Upward Sports is to introduce children to Jesus Christ by creating opportunities to serve through sports. Upward Sports is a positive sports experience that offers both parents and kids exactly what they want in a sports league. Parents love the family-friendly schedule, welcoming environment and coaches who teach the sport without yelling. Kids love the fact that they get to play or cheer every game, make new friends and have fun learning new skills.

Each fall we host an Upward Soccer league for pre-K through 6th grade. Registration for this league will be open as early as June. Games are every Saturday in September and October.

Each winter we host an Upward Basketball and Cheerleading league for pre-K through 6th grade. Registration for this league will be open as early as October. Games are every Saturday in January and February.
